The RIAT initiative would be unable to achieve its objectives without the willingness of medical journals to consider RIAT manuscripts for publication. Journals are not only the gatekeepers for publishing RIAT articles but can also elevate biomedical publishing by insisting that trial manuscripts are published alongside the underlying data.

How can your journal support RIAT?
Here are the steps you can take to become a RIAT-friendly journal:
- Indicate your journal’s willingness to accept RIAT manuscripts. Submit a rapid response to the RIAT declaration here: http://www.bmj.com/content/346/bmj.f2865/submit-a-rapid-response
- Let us know about it! Once your rapid response is published on the BMJ website, send us the following info via email to info@restoringtrials.org
- URL to the rapid response
- Journal name & URL
- Editor-in-Chief’s name and email address
Here are some ways to promote RIAT to your authors:
- Publish an Editorial about RIAT in your journal
- Write a blog on your journal’s or publisher’s website
- Include “Instructions to Authors” specific to RIAT manuscripts (modify text about manuscript types or about randomized trial submissions to indicate your willingness to publish RIAT studies and include a link to the RIAT website, www.restoringtrials.org)
- Republish the RIAT declaration as open-access with appropriate copyright (CC-BY-NC 3.0)
