A clinical trial registry is a public, searchable platform for registering a clinical trial. Some countries require clinical trials being conducted in that country to be registered; others do not require it, but often strongly encourage it. Clinicaltrials.gov was the first official online clinical trials registry, run by the US National Library of Medicine. It is the largest and most widely used registry, accepting trials from around the globe.
